Privacy policy
This policy explains what information the mamesama app and service collect, why, and what you can do about it. It applies to the mamesama mobile app for iOS and Android and to the servers that support it.
Who is responsible
mamesama is operated by mamesama. You can reach us at feedback@mamesama.com. We are the controller of the personal information described here.
What we collect and why

We do not use advertising or analytics software in the app, and we do not sell personal information.
Services we rely on
- Sign in with Apple and Google Sign-In handle authentication. We receive a stable user identifier and, if you allow it, your name. Their own privacy policies apply to the sign-in step.
- Google Maps displays the map, and the Google Geocoding service turns addresses into map coordinates when a place is added. Google's privacy policy applies to the map view.
- OpenAI translates the text of notes and comments. We send the text to be translated and nothing that identifies you. OpenAI does not use API data to train its models.
- Fly.io and Tigris host our servers and store uploaded photos. Servers are located in Tokyo, Japan.
- Instagram. If you choose to attach a link to one of your own Instagram posts, we store that link and any text or photo you add yourself in mamesama. When a linked post is displayed as an embed, it is loaded from Instagram, which may set cookies under Meta's privacy policy. We do not collect Instagram data about anyone who has not linked a post.
Who can see your content
Posts, photos, comments, tags, likes, and your display name are visible to everyone who uses the app. Your email address and sign-in identifiers are never shown.
How long we keep information
Your account and content stay until you delete them or ask us to. Technical logs are kept for a short period needed to operate the service and are then discarded. Deleted photos are removed from storage when the post that used them is deleted.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, to stop using it, or to delete it. Users in Japan have these rights under the Act on the Protection of Personal Information, and users in the European Economic Area and United Kingdom have them under the GDPR, along with the right to object and to complain to a supervisory authority. International transfers
Our servers are in Japan. Sign-in providers, Google Maps, and OpenAI process data in their own regions, which may include the United States, under their published safeguards.
Children
mamesama is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes
When this policy changes we update the date at the top. For significant changes we also show a notice in the app.
